New products with fabric and inspiring books for the Christmas holiday
In addition to my wall hangings, I also like to design fabric designs/patterns. I really like a simple and sleek style, geometric and orderly. I call this design my Swedish flowers, because of the simple, Scandinavian style. Because it is really difficult to sell your designs by means of licensing or buy out, I have had fabric printed in different colors myself. As a designer, I spend a lot of time behind my computer, despite my paper cutting. That is where the design always starts, but after that on the computer so much happens. After scanning and coloring comes the designing of the pattern, and then making it ready for the printer. So I also really like to make things myself with the fabric. After watching the necessary DIY videos on YouTube and Instagram, I have now mastered making cushions with zippers and various bags and pencil cases or pouches. I love neon colours, but printing them in fabric (unless screen printing) is difficult, so I went looking for beautiful neon zippers as a contrast. Making a final product yourself is really fun, so lately I often exchange the scissors and the computer for the sewing machine. Most products are for sale in my etsy shop or at the shop Meneer en Mevrouw de boer in Utrecht.
Beautiful books for the Christmas holidays,
I have an extensive collection of illustrated (children's) books, vintage books, workbooks of paper cutting, art and other crafts, books by designers, art books. Etc. I always get so happy from them myself and I get inspired by books that fellow designers show online. That is why I post my inspiration books in my newsletters and blog posts as often as possible.
Book 1: The fire Tree (Hans Christian Andersen) Illustrations: Sanna Annukka
After all, it is almost Christmas and this beautiful little, illustrated book is a feast for the eyes. I am a big fan of designer Sanna Annukka. Her beautiful geometric style with folk influences and colours are beautiful. It feels very much like paper cutting, simple lines and shapes. I always see something new in the illustrations.
Book 2: The race to space
Clive Gifford, illustrations: Paul Davis
I love science fiction, moon landing, space, space rockets, that kind of thing. So a book with spaceships, space suits and beautiful illustrations in great colours is something I really can't resist. What beautiful illustrations, with textures and popping colours. So inspiring, especially the use of colour and shadows.
Book 3: Paris, petit pop-up panoramique, Illustrations: Sarah McMenemy
Last year I spent a few days in Paris with a friend of mine. Since my Au pair days in the eighties, I have a soft spot for the city. I found this little pop-up book in the museum shop of the Picasso museum. Pop up book are always a delight and this one is also a panorama which you can place on your side table. This little book full of highlights of Paris is beautifully illustrated with beautiful and cute illustrations.
