Exhibitions

Last week I was busy setting up a small exhibition in a clothing store in Zeist, a city not far from where I live. The owner had seen my work some time ago at an exhibition in Utrecht and was immediately enthusiastic. In her store she mainly sells Scandinavian design clothing such as Marimekko,  Aino and Papu. These clothing brands use beautiful fabrics and colors and often graphic prints. Now that fits very well with my style :) My wall hangings with large graphic prints and framed artwork with bronze foil and cut art fit very nicely with the prints and colors of these brands and it is a joy to hang next to them.

If you now walk into the store, you will immediately see the large blue tapestry hanging in the back. It really draws you in. Next to it hangs my ‘Grow Big’ tapestry with ocher yellow and pink. And I sold that tapestry the same day! When I later received a photo of that tapestry in its new location, I was very impressed. The colors in the house (sofa, chairs, floor) match the tapestry so beautifully. As if it was made for that room. I will post the photo here (with permission) so you can see it for yourself. So much fun.

Another exhibition is now being planned, namely:

Utrecht Stadsknippers

Drawing with scissors

The paper cutting association in the Netherlands,( the Utrecht group)  (papierknipkunst.nl) has been invited to exhibit in the Utrecht City Hall and I am participating. The curator of the exhibition was very enthusiastic about my tapestries. Precisely because they are so colorful. After all, when you think of paper cutting art, you often think of the pure cutting work in black or colored paper. You do not often see a representation of it on fabric. As I often tell, papercutting is my starting point. That's what I design with. The cutting work is therefore rarely the end result. But despite that, I often participate in the association's exhibitions to show that paper cutting and paper cutting art can go in many directions. I have already seen some of works for the exhibition of my fellow contributors and it will be beautiful, interesting and diverse. Utrecht is a very creative city and this will also be reflected in the various works. The topics must have a link with the city of Utrecht. For me, cycling through the city is somewhat my guiding principle. Buildings, bridges over the old canal, the water in the old canal, statues that I regularly cycle past and our Dom Tower. After years of being covered in scaffolding, it is slowly emerging again. That makes me very happy. It is also interesting that you can miss a building, a landmark of the city. But it's really true, every piece that is visible again after years of scaffolding around it brings a smile to my face. Anyway, my work is presented as tapestries, framed artwork with original papercut ans prints.

In any case, our exhibition can be viewed for 2 months:

July 2 to August 29 2024.

So if you are in the City, come and have a look!
