Exibition Vreden, Germany

These fine-art prints with original papercuts are made for an exhibition in the Kult Museum in Vreden, Germany. The Dutch guild of papercutting (www.papierknippen.nl) exists 40 years in 2023 and to celebrate this, there are exhibitions in the Netherlands and also one in Germany. (april-juni 2023) I became a member because I want the guild to keep existing. A lot of members are of a certain age and new members are not easy to find. Papercutting is an old craft and the knowledge of the fine papercut tradition will disappear if we do not keep it alive.

I am not a fine detailed papercutter, but I find it fascinating. I like bold and simple shapes (like Dick Bruna), and in my own style I try to contribute for the exhibitions as much as possible. Because this way I can show that paper cutting can be in many forms and shapes.

In Vreden there is a small, but beautiful papercut museum which hold a variety of old and new work. They hosted our exhibition for a few month and the theme was: spring, so that’s where the tulips came from. My Artprints are printed on the beautiful Hahnemhule fine-art paper which is non reflecting and acid-free. The black paper is Matt black silhouette paper.

Make it stand out

This artprint is one of tree. The flowers are made with papercuts. After cutting, I scan them in my computer and will give it some colors and textures. Because I wanted to show more original papercuts, I layered it with one of a kind black cut outs. They are on top of the artprint (so the will fall off when you open the frame.) Somehow there is often a bird ending up in the design. (I love to cut out abstract birds)
